It’s a subjective word. Some of us feel a little cramped in Vinegar Bend. Others need to be able to walk to an Apple Store and a Cheesecake Factory to feel connected to the world. A proposal has been out there that would change the threshhold for what qualifies a place to be considered a “metropolitan statistical area” reportedly just for categorization purposes, although some fear there could be negative consequences for some areas. ....
Where we have seen the bulk of the tornadic activity is right along that mississippi/alabama border. one of the towns here is called vinegar bend right about down here. this is where yar bo is located in alabama. we had several tornado reports here and we just got information, three people, a mother and her two children and another person, were killed when these tornadoes touched down. this could be one tornado touching down, going up, touching down again in various places. that s how the severe storm prediction center looks at tornadic activity right now. want to show you what s going on as far as the tornadic activity that we might expect today. we ve got a moderate risk across the carolinas. mostly from say about charleston to wilmington towards virginia beach and near richmond. we could see the risk of an isolated tornado as well. take a look at these pictures out of yarborough in yaialabama. it looks like total destruction. ....
Mississippi. look at where this cluster of tornadoes is located. down here, vinegar bend and also yarbo, they had a number of fatalities there. the estimate at least right now is about five. but also just in the vicinity of montgomery, alabama, just to the south, prattville three reported fatalities last night. also into west central, mississippi. i know you re from there, t.j. we did have reports of very frequent lightning. about three tornadoes reported across that region. we ve got some images out of clinton, mississippi. clinton is one of those areas we ve been talking about all morning long. they sustained very heavy damage. this is just to the west of jackson, mississippi. downed trees, downed powerlines and even at one point, this tornado, which looks to be, now, they ll have surveyors out there ....
