SCA - Svenska Cellulosa AB (via Public) / Help us find our Czech Christmas guests in Tjäderberget!

Help us find our Czech Christmas guests in Tjäderberget! Last Christmas, SCA s Tjäderberget conservation park in Västerbotten had an unexpected visit from the Czech Republic. Anna (Aniéka) and Ondra, two tourists in search of the northern lights, managed to get to the park and celebrated Christmas in the guest cabin. Now we d like to get in touch with them! The Tjäderberget conservation park is 25 kilometers southwest of Lycksele, on the border between the municipalities of Lycksele and Vindeln. You reach the park via the E12. The park encompasses 1,303 hectares of beautiful pine-dominated forests and mixed hardwood forests. The area is quite hilly with four large peaks surrounding the Inre Kroksjön lake, where SCA has an open guest cabin with a stove and four beds for visitors.

How one research engineer conducts extreme climate work in sub-Artic Sweden

Jan 25, 2021 6:41pm Paul Smith holds a doctorate in atmospheric science and works on the front lines of climate change science, collecting carbon readings from a remote site in sub-artic Sweden. One of his many jobs involves climbing a 150-meter mast to maintain an array of air quality sensors. (Paul Smith)   Obtaining carbon readings from the atmosphere in minus-30 degree Centigrade weather during mid-winter in Sweden sounds like a job for an extreme athlete. Paul Smith does that work, even though he is more of an extreme research engineer with a few athletic skills to boot. With a doctorate in atmospheric science from the University of Leeds, he manages and serves as principal investigator at the ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System) Atmospheric Station in the subarctic Svartberget Forest near Vindeln, Sweden.
