Undergraduate development studies degree phased out
Development studies, a subject field in which Uganda’s Makerere University has just been ranked 45th globally, will cease to exist as a single undergraduate degree course from the 2021-22 academic year as part of a programme rationalisation process.
The degree, offered in the college of humanities and social sciences, has been ranked in the top 50 globally in the 2021 QS World University subject rankings, released in March.
But Makerere will remove it from the list of choices for undergraduate programmes as part of 18 programmes that will be phased out.
According to Makerere University, the development studies degree will be ‘scattered’ and its content integrated into other courses because it is a cross-cutting field of study and it will be an elective option that students can choose at all levels of their studies. ....
