St. Martin News Network - Government closely monitoring Volcano developments on St. Vincent.

PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM): -The Fire Department/Office of Disaster Management, and the Meteorological Department of Sint Maarten (MDS), are closely monitoring developments on the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines with respect to the La Soufriere Volcano. The volcano does not pose a threat to Sint Maarten.
According to the St. Vincent National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the steaming/smoking at the volcano has increased, however, the alert level remains at Orange.
The La Soufriere Volcano stands 3,864 feet above sea level. According to the Seismic Research Unit (SRU) of the University of the West Indies, there have been five explosive eruptions at the volcano during the following historical period: 1718, 1812, 1814, 1902/03 and 1979. ....

Thousands of people were ordered to evacuate from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent as the La Soufriere volcano erupted on Friday (April 9) morning.
Please leave the red zone immediately. La Soufriere has erupted,  St. Vincent s National Emergency Management Organization said. Ash fall recorded as far as Argyle International Airport.
The agency reported that ash plumes were about five miles high and being blown east.
Videos of La Soufriere erupting were shared on social media.

St. Vincent Residents Evacuate as La Soufriere Volcano Erupts

La Soufrière volcano erupted, prompting a mandatory evacuation. Residents in the red zone on the eastern Caribbean island of St. Vincent were told to leave immediately on April 9, 2021.
At 9:08 a.m. EDT (Atlantic Time; GMT-4), St. Vincent’s National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) stated an explosive eruption rocked La Soufrière volcano. Witnesses on the ground posted videos on social media that showed plumes of ash rising.
Emergency management officials confirmed the videos with the statement that said the ash column was about 20,00 feet (6.1 km) above the volcano. The ash is traveling east into the Atlantic Ocean. ....

PHILIPSBURG: - La Soufriere volcano in St. Vincent has erupted and displaced thousands of people, which Member of Parliament for the United People s (UP) Party Omar Ottley says it’s a sad turn of events for the entire Caribbean.
In a Press Release issued Friday Morning, the MP also said the volcanic eruption and displacement of St. Vincent and the Grenadines people should be a wakeup call for those who are responsible for making the decision that impacts St. Maarten’s ability to recover.
As people of the Caribbean, whenever one of our neighbors suffers, we feel their pain because we are all connected by blood and water, said Ottley. He issued a plea to the people of St. Maarten to keep St. Vincent and the Grenadines in your prayers. ....
