several bay area families. they thought wrong. kpix 5 s brian webb reports from newark, where police just busted half a dozen suspected burglars. brian. reporter: brian, it started out as a heartbreaking story. the gifts stolen before christmas. then a heartwarming story with police paying for new presents. and they made several arrests and found a lot of the stolen items. reporter: it wasburglars stole a little boy s bike the night before christmas. i started crying a little bit because i wanted my bike. reporter: a few days later a break in the case. a tip from a jewelry store. someone was selling an engraved bracelet that seemed like it might be stolen. so newark police went to work. they didn t sell it. she declined to buy it but she took a photo of it using her phone and the men left with the jewelry. reporter: this is what they found. a few thousand dollars worth of electronics, jewelry and a couple of the bad guys guns. we felt the best gift for the comm
overnight, lost in the icy monterey bay waters. the coast guard says once the engine fell off and pudgetured the boat punctured the boat, she had just a small oar and will power. from the looks of her skin she still had some red in her and stuff so she must have been swimming, just fighting, you know? she said she had flares but it was really foggy. reporter: these fishermen spotted her two miles off lover s point. the raft was folded up and 80% under water. she was just too cold to react to anything. she was just i m cold. reporter: the pair didn t have the strength to lift her on to the boat. she clung to the side of it until the coast guard arrived. the monterey city fire department said she was conscious but had hypothermia. this woman survived on her own all night, probably very lonely psychologically stressful situation to be out there but she maintained the will to survive and the fact that she had a life jacket on helped ensure her survival. reporter
