School district to install more walkway covers By MEGHAN BRADBURY - | Apr 21, 2021 A half dozen additional schools will receive walkway covers leading from portable classrooms to the main buildings. The Lee County School Board renewed a contract to continue installations, at a cost of $500,000, last Tuesday. Construction Director Scott Reichenbacher said remaining schools include Harns Marsh Middle School, Gateway Elementary School, North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts, Tice Elementary School, Treeline Elementary School, Villas Elementary School and the Pace Center. He said the district has been installing the walkway covers since the half cent sales tax was approved by Lee County voters in 2018. ....

Today, the Foundation for Lee County Public Schools hit the road and surprised the six recipients with the Golden Apple Teacher Award. Award sponsors, selection committee and foundation board members took part in shining the spotlight on the outstanding performance that the winning teachers do for the education system and their students, officials reported. “Once again, the six recipients of the prestigious Golden Apple Award are representatives of all the outstanding educators we have in the School District of Lee County,” foundation President Marshall T. Bower said. “I can think of no more important profession than teaching. The impact of the teaching profession is felt throughout the entire community and deserves to be applauded.” ....
