ROANOKE RAPIDS — Dec. 12, 2020, marks the 125th anniversary of the coronation of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
In what began primarily as a religious feast day in Mexico, is now celebrated in countries throughout Latin America and the United States. On Saturday, St. John the Baptist’s 6 p.m. mass in Español, was a celebration of the Lady, with many folks attending in their traditional Mexican clothing, bringing flowers for her.
The Rev. Pius Wekesa of St. John the Baptist, said the celebration marks a historic 16th century tradition, when the Virgin Mary appeared in visions in 1531. ....
