Chatra police have seized over Rs 21.7 crore opium and brown sugar during raids after the model code of conduct came into effect on March 16. 901 quintal of opium, brown sugar, and poppy pods were recovered. Highest-ever recovery of Rs 10 crore of opium was seized from an illegal brown sugar manufacturing unit last month. Police also confiscated 21 small and large vehicles transporting drugs.
A criminal named Lalu Saw was arrested in Chatra for carrying 2.7kg opium valued at Rs 15 lakh along with a pistol, five bullets, and a motorcycle. The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the police team led by SP Vikas Kumar Pandey. Lalu was wanted in multiple cases related to NDPS Act, Arms Act, murder, dacoity, and snatching in Chatra.
