Jalen Brown was fortunate enough to have done so twice, just not under the most desirable circumstances. He is now an undergraduate student at Morehouse College after being suspended by Howard University over a social media post, as told in the
Brown, 20, was a student at Howard in Washington, D.C. in 2019 when he was removed due to a tweet he sent to a fellow student. At the time, Brown was supporting a campaign on campus over students losing their scholarships due to poor grades. He and the other student were engaged in a Twitter argument over the topic.
The eight pieces came from the personal collection of Wells and his husband,
Manfred Rantner, which has grown to over 50 pieces of artwork. Wells said he wanted to thank Morehouse which has produced alumni such as
Martin Luther King Jr. and
Spike Lee for putting him on his current career path.
“I will always be grateful for my Morehouse education and the springboard it created for my career on Wall Street and in business, and I want to recognize that with this gift,” said Wells who graduated from the college in 2000.
Wells said that the pieces he donated from artists like Johnson and Sherald were like “owning a piece of history.”
