Down the california s ban on violent video sales and rentals to children. the california law had banned the sale of rental of video games to anyone under the age of 18, but the supreme court agreed with a lower court and ruled that the law violated minors rights under the first amendment. nbc news justice correspondent pete williams joining us live from the supreme court. and pete, obviously, a lot of people watching this to see where the court would fall and if they created a new category here. they decided not to do that. the court said two problems with the law. first they said that the supporters aimed this law of what they called ultra violent games which included gory violent scenes especially directed toward women and police officers, but the supreme court said two things. first of all, they said that the courts have never carved out an area of expression and said it is beyond the protection of the first amendment and some exceptions are obscenity and fighting words and incit ....
