First Step Shelter to host walkathon

First Step Shelter is having its first walkathon from May 22 to May 31. Participants can walk any time from May 22 to May 31 and can walk anywhere: a park, a favorite walking trail, or just walk a mile in their neighborhood. Registration is $20 for individuals and $75 for teams up to four. An individual donation page will be set up for each participant where they can direct their friends and family to make their donation. The individual goal is $100 or more, and the team goal is $250.00 or more. All walkers get a First Step Shelter Walkathon T-shirt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three individuals/teams who raise the most money.

New Smyrna Beach Rotary Will Honor Ashley Baker, Former FSS Resident

Apr 14, 2021 11:51 AM New Smyrna Beach, FL - Next Wednesday (April 21) at noon, the New Smyrna Beach Rotary Club will present First Step Shelter (FSS) with $1,200 to be used for Ashley s Ride, a transportation program that honors former resident Ashley Baker. FHP: Indiana Woman Struck And Killed On ISB Kevin Para, a member of the NSB Rotary Club, came up with the idea for Ashley s Ride a few weeks after Baker s death. The organization also donated $2,050 to help the Baker family offset costs for Ashley’s funeral expenses. Ashley s Ride To Benefit First Step Shelter Residents According to Victoria Fahlberg, Executive Director of First Step Shelter, “We are extremely grateful for all of the support the shelter and Ashley’s family has received from the New Smyrna Beach Rotary Club.  Their support will enable more of our residents to safely get to work and back until they earn enough to pay for their own transportation.”  Kevin Para, of the NSB
