Judiciary workers' strike stalls alleged kidnapper Evans' trial

The ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has stalled the trial of alleged billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, his lawyer, Victor Okpara, has said.
Evans was scheduled to continue his defence on Wednesday before Hakeem Oshodi of an Ikeja High Court, Lagos, for the alleged kidnap of Donatus Dunu, the managing director of the Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
Speaking to the the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Okpara said Evans had opened his defence and testified that he was innocent of all the allegations levelled against him by the state.
“He has testified before the court as to his innocence regarding all the charges leveled against him as contained in the charge sheet. ....

The absence of prosecution witnesses on Wednesday stalled the two of the trials of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans which he is facing before Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports in the first suit, Evans is facing trial alongside Victor Aduba, a dismissed member of the Nigerian Army.
The defendants are charged with four counts of kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.
Evans and the dismissed soldier are accused of kidnapping Mr Sylvanus Ahamonu, holding him hostage for at least nine weeks and collecting a ransom of 420,000 dollars from his family. ....

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday expressed concern over the delay in the trial of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans.
This followed the absence of prosecution witnesses in the two cases before her court which stalled the trial of the alleged kidnap kingpin.
Evans is being tried alongside a dismissed soldier, Victor Aduba.
The defendants are facing a four-count charge bordering kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.
Evans and the dismissed soldier are accused of kidnapping Sylvanus Ahamonu, holding him hostage for nine weeks and collecting a ransom of $420,000 from his family. ....
