Huron Township man facing charges in fatal shooting

A Huron Township man Kalin Karvelis, 25 is facing charges in connection with the fatal shooting of his mother, Julie Lee Karvelis, 53, and the non-fatal shooting of his father, Victor Karvelis.
The suspect was to have been arraigned Monday morning at 34th District Court in Romulus on first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and two counts of felony firearm, said Everette Robbins, director of public safety for the township. The charges were issued by Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, Robbins said in a press release Monday.
On Friday, Huron Township Police were called to the Karvelis home in the 38020 block of New Boston St. at approximately 8 a.m. when an off-duty police officer and neighbor saw the defendant and the elder Karvelis outside. The defendant had a knife in his hand and made stabbing motions at his father, Robbins said. Huron Township A 25-year-old man accused of killing his mother and shooting his father Friday morning at their Huron Township home is expected to be arraigned on criminal charges Monday morning.
Kalin Karvelis, 25, is accused of fatally shooting his mother Julie Karvelis, 53, and wounding his father, Victor Karvelis. Victor s injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
