Chicopee Board of Assessors announcing real estate tax exemptions for the elderly, disabled veterans and the blind Updated Jan 28, 2021; CHICOPEE – The Board of Assessors is announcing exemptions that are available to help eligible residents receive reductions to their property tax bills. Tax relief is available for people over the age of 65, widows and widowers, veterans with certain service-connected disabilities and people who are blind. In most cases applicants must meet income eligibility requirements to be eligible for a lower tax bill, said Laura McCarthy, chairwoman of the Board of Assessors. Anyone who is 65 or older, earns less than $30,041 a year and has assets of less than $50,000, excluding their house, may apply for an exemption of $500 on their real estate taxes. The income level for couples is less than $45,021 a year and assets must be less than $62,242, she said. ....
