dire and so desperate. would we ll see how the fthree leaders talk about this this afternoon. but back at home for president biden, this a huge political liability for him. it absolutely is. m.j., appreciate it. thank you. joining me now, democratic congressman vicente gonzalez of texas who joined president biden on his trip to the u.s./mexico border over the weekend. good to have you with us. good to be here. as you know president biden was criticized about the trip that he didn t meet with any migrants while visiting that center in el paso. do you believe it was a mistake for the president? no it was a very effective productive day on the border for the president. he got to visit the border and meet withrd boor patrol and customs agents on or border. got to discuss detailed processes of what migrants go through and got to see what trade and drugs that are being
what is that actually going to do? that would effect the united states side. and they expect that they will get more resources. those resources could be more agents helping process these migrants. on the mexican side, the fear is that the change of duties for this agent, from border crossing, four of them here in el paso area for legal people who just want to go shopping, want to go see relatives or want to go and spend a holidays and trade, that that legal movement is going to be effected because they re going to be fewer people at the legal crossings trying to deal with the people who are crossing illegally. thank you so much, for helping us better understand the issue at the border. appreciate it. and with us now vicente gonzalez of texas and his district includes part of the u.s. border and a member of the problem shovellers caucus.
biden s economic policies are working in particular for the latinx community. the truth is that biden s three historic and sweeping pieces of legislation stand to benefit latinos greatly. democrats need to keep touting the sweeping economic gains latinx communities are experiencing and will continue to reap thanks to biden. joining me now is democratic congressman vicente gonzalez of texas. congressman, thank you very much for coming to the last word. you represent mcallen and points north. how s the local economy and what s on voters minds right now? that s right. it s robust. unemployment is super low in our area. everyone who wants a job can get one. we re getting back on track. obviously, covid levels have dropped dramatically in my district. we went through a really tough time this past few years. we lost over 3,000 constituents within my district. and biden has really given us a
killed as they were pulling on their church robes, this is the 56th anniversary of it by sticks of dynamite. so drawing a line from slavery to that to mother emanuel church to today and saying that, yes, we need to face up to the fact that that 400-year history of slavery needs to be addressed through policy. he should have said that at the debate. he did not. granted. but he has got policy that addresses that. and i know i know aisha talked about this and i want to give her a chance to say what she s going to say before i respond. and we ll get to that but i want to read from the castro campaign which reads in response to gonzalez, congressman gonzalez is entitled to endorse whichever candidate he feels represents his values. what do you think? on the endorsement thing, this will happen.
