The committee, consisting of the three Vice Chiefs of the Armed Forces and the Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee has been tasked to ensure that all views are taken into consideration before the matter is moved for a final decision to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat, who has been tasked with the reforms, has decided to initially roll out two theatre commands – an Air Defence Command to combine all air assets of the armed forces and a Maritime Command that would take over the tasks of the Navy, Coast Guard and protection of island territories. ....
