Albemarle County, Charlottesville units respond to structure fire on Verona Court

Career and volunteer units from Albemarle County Fire Rescue and units from Charlottesville Fire Department responded to the report of a garage fire with exposures on Verona Court at 6:03 p.m. Wednesday.
When units arrived on location the incident was determined to be a fire in progress, evident by the heavy black smoke issuing from the soffits of a single-story detached garage.

Fairfield council considers cannabis business permits
The council held interviews with the 14 applicants for the retail pot shops Wednesday and Thursday.
The council also is scheduled to discuss the formation of a multijurisdictional Two-by-Two Subcommittee on homelessness.
“In an effort to address regional homeless issues in Solano County, the city of Fairfield would like to form a subcommittee comprised of two council members (or one council member and mayor) to work with two council members (or mayor) from . . . Vacaville and Suisun City,” a staff report to the council states.
The virtual meeting is set for 6 p.m. after a closed session at 5 p.m., during which the council will be updated on negotiations involving property located off Verona Court and Palladio Way, as well as an update on the federal suit, Nevarez v. City of Fairfield, and an item of potential litigation.
