Vero Beach retiree finds unique way to thank lifeguards at Humiston Beach for what they do

VERO BEACH Watching over swimmers as they enjoy the beach and surf can be a hot, tiring job. But lifeguards near Humiston Beach are being treated to protein bars and healthy snacks thanks to retired bus driver Gloria Shipley.
Since 2017, Shipley, 79, has supplied the lifeguards with the snacks to thank them for their service to the community.
She drops the snacks off every few weeks to make sure there is always a fresh supply.
“I’ve lived here for about five years and I spend a lot of time on the beach,” said Shipley. “Sometimes, it seems like we take the lifeguards for granted, without even giving them a thank you for their service.
