Vermont Business Magazine A new food pilot was born in April as an offshoot of the highly successful Everyone Eats Vermont project. This idea came from Capstone Executive Director Sue Minter’s goal to expand mobility to Vermonters through greater transportation and food access.
By decentralizing the food shelf delivery system and providing meals in concert with child support services, Capstone is responding to what people need to be successful parents, and easy access to healthy meals rose to the top of the list. ....

BENNINGTON, Vt. Southwestern Vermont Health Care s (SVHC) Medical Matters Weekly with Dr. Trey Dobson, a weekly interactive, multiplatform medical-themed talk show, will feature Jeff Tieman, president and CEO of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, as a guest on its May 5 show. 
 
The show will cover VAHHS s impact on patient care statewide, both throughout the pandemic and beyond.
 
The show is produced with cooperation from Catamount Access Television (CAT-TV) and airs at 12 p.m. on Wednesdays. Viewers can see Medical Matters Weekly on Facebook at facebook.com/svmedicalcenter and facebook.com/CATTVBennington. 
 
Tieman has worked in his current position since 2016. Green Mountain Farm Direct sees record sales, distributes food to NEK communities

NEWPORT –A small nonprofit based out of Newport that works with local farmers reached record sales the week of December 9, with over $17,500 in sales.
Green Mountain Farm Direct (GMFD) is a regional food hub that connects over 30 local farms and producers to schools, institutions, restaurants, and grocery stores throughout the NEK.
The program is reaching people who have been negatively affected by the pandemic while providing economic support for small local businesses and farms working hard to produce quality food for Vermonters.
The record sales came from various schools and community institutions, among others.
Brighton Elementary, Charleston Elementary, H.O.P.E. in Lyndonville, Northeast Kingdom Community Action (NEKCA) Head Start in Gilman, and NEKCA – St. Johnsbury Food Shelf were the top purchasers. ....

USDA-RD Vermont & NH total funding in 2020 exceeded $359 million

Vermont Business Magazine USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Bette Brand today highlighted the department’s investments in 2020 that are building prosperity and strengthening the nation’s rural businesses and communities.
“Under the leadership of President Donald J Trump and Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, USDA invested a record $40 billion in rural communities in 2020,” Brand said. “This assistance is helping increase economic opportunities and improving the quality of life for rural residents across the 50 states and all U.S. territories.”
Vermont and New Hampshire State Director of USDA Rural Development Anthony Linardos announced the landmark funding in a recent statement. ....
