Don Keelan: What is going on in Burlington?

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.
Thirty-three years ago, when my family and I settled in Vermont, we thought about residing in Burlington. In many ways, Burlington was a mini-Boston, only more beautiful with majestic views of the Adirondack and Green Mountains, endless vistas across Lake Champlain, and home to a half dozen colleges.
Burlington enjoyed the success from nearby Essex Junction, the IBM facility, an international airport, and many other amenities. No wonder Burlington was acclaimed as one of the best small cities in which to live and retire.
In between then and now, Burlington found the time and money to develop a pedestrian-friendly shopping area, miles of biking and walking paths, a first-class waterfront visitor/marina, and just up the hill, a world-class medical research university and hospital. ....

As Stamford defies state of emergency, Guv claims 'solid ground'

Unambiguous language of statute referenced as basis for suit cannot be dismissed imo esp absent a threat to begin with nor is there a historical context. If anything has been proven that it’s that lockdown and restrictions plus masks don’t work if ‘cases’ are rising. States may need to present evidence that these unconstitutional mandates are working.
And hoping this could lead to SCOTUS challenge resulting in end to Naziesque lockdowns complete with public posting of VT LE ‘snitchline’ to turn in neighbors for LE action and chidren required to turn in parents to government-sponsored authorities – a dealbreaker and gamechanger if there ever was one. The good chancellor complete with mad-scientist sidekick just as the namesake chancellor before him clearly don’t possess a conscience or care about us, our youth or families. ....

TNR MOST READ: Heating fuel deliveries forbidden to 'red tagged' homeowners

By Guy Page
A Vermont Daily report about hundreds of Vermonters forbidden by state law from receiving heating fuel deliveries incited a strong reader response. Vermonters wondered how and why a Legislature could pass a fuel tank inspection law that would literally leave homeowners in the cold and expose them to the public embarassment of being named on an Agency of Natural Resources online database.
Guy Page
The state of Vermont is showing some flexibility by extending the inspection deadline for some types of fuel tanks. However, the no-delivery rule for inspected-and-failed fuel tanks is still in force. As confirmed in the statement from the Vermont Fuel Dealers printed below, homeowners who haven’t had their heating oil fuel tanks inspected now have until May. An uninspected tank that doesn’t pose a “significant threat” may still be filled. ....

Welch on electoral fraud investigation: 'The answer is no'

By Guy Page
Vermont Congressman Peter Welch will not support an investigation into alleged 2020 General Election electoral fraud, either before or after Inauguration Day on Jan. 20 he said at a Montpelier press conference Tuesday.
Rep. Welch, a Democrat, and Vermont’s lone congressman since his election in 2006, attended Gov. Phil Scott’s Tuesday press briefing to provide information on Vermont’s share of the $900 stimulus package approved by Congress and as yet unsigned by Pres. Donald Trump.
Vermont Daily asked Rep. Welch (at two hours, 25 minutes on ORCA video): “Congressman Welch – If – and I know it’s a big if – you were persuaded either before or after Inauguration Day that the 2020 general election was a victim of significant electoral fraud, would you call for and support a House investigation?” ....

State of Vermont server taken offline after nationwide cyberattack

By Guy Page
The state of Vermont took a server offline as a result of being among 18,000 computer users affected by a nationwide cyberattack, Chief Information Officer John Quinn said Tuesday morning.
Yesterday, a sophisticated attack “compromised security firm FireEye, the US Treasury and Commerce departments and likely many more victims,” Malwarebytes.com reports.
“Threat actors hacked into IT company SolarWinds in order to use its software channel to push out malicious updates onto 18,000 of its Orion platform customers. This scenario, referred to as a supply-chain attack, is perhaps the most devious and difficult to detect as it relies on software that has already been trusted and that can be widely distributed at once,” Malwarebytes said. ....
