Women s water polo squashes Stanford

(Simon Park | Daily Trojan) No. 1 women’s water polo remains undefeated after two victories over No. 2 Stanford this weekend. The group is now 14-0 on the season as the MPSF and NCAA tournaments loom on the horizon.  “We’re very happy that we are still undefeated and that we won against Stanford, even though we don’t look at undefeated, we don’t look for the records,” head coach Marko Pintaric said.  The two-game series began Saturday afternoon, with back-to-back scoring drives from both competitors leaving little room for breaks. The Cardinal started up 2-0 with a 5-meter penalty and a shot from the field, but USC answered with two in the first and a five-point surge in the second, turning the lead over to the Trojans for good. (Photo by Ling Luo) April 5 at 5:13 PM The No. 1 USC Trojans traveled to Bloomington, Ind., to take on the No. 15 Indiana Hoosiers in two matches on Friday and Saturday. The Trojans looked like they would have an easy go-around against the Hoosiers, who had an 8-8 record. Fighting fatigue from unusual travel, USC managed to pull out two wins, 10-8 on Friday and 19-10 on Sunday, but Indiana put up a good fight. It took one and a half games before USC looked like the best team in the nation.

Trojans win four straight in Tempe

(Alexis Francel | Daily Trojan) The No. 1 USC women’s water polo team swept both competitors at the ASU Invitational in Scottsdale, Ariz. this weekend, picking up four wins to put them at a perfect 5-0 record on the season.  Despite not competing for almost two weeks, the Trojans were able to hold off a No. 4 Arizona State team that has had some of the most consistent practice of any during the pandemic, and a No. 6 Michigan team looking to earn its first victory over USC in the program’s history.
