It was gathered that the meeting was ostensibly necessitated by the raping and killing of a University of Benin student, Uwaila Vera Omozuwa, who was attacked in a church in Benin City, Edo State capital, and consequently died on May 27, 2020.

To mark the occasion, several programmes were held across the country to raise awareness on issues affecting women. In this edition, LAW & HUMAN RIGHTS sought the views of female lawyers and human rights activists on whether there has been any significant progress in terms of respect for the rights of women under the current administration.
