Not forever, though. The Vatican is considering five candidates for sainthood:
Father Augustus Tolton, of Chicago, a former slave and America’s first Black priest.
Pierre Toussaint, of New York, a slave who became a New York barber known as “saintly Pierre” and who founded Catholic Charities.
Julia Greeley, of Colorado, who as a child lost her right eye from the snap of a slave whip in Missouri, and who became known in her lifetime as the “Angel of Charity.”
Henriette Delille, of New Orleans, a mixed race Creole who founded an order of Black nuns to care for the sick and dying in that impoverished city of the 19th century. ....

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - It’s not a sight some are used to seeing so prominently on display in the Catholic Church.
