DOTr hits Poe over insistence of corruption in private vehicle inspection system By TED CORDERO, GMA News Published February 26, 2021 6:01pm The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday slammed Senator Grace Poe for insisting that corruption and irregular practices plagued private vehicle inspection centers (PMVICs). In a statement, the DOTr said it “takes exception at the apparent zeal and relentless ardor of Senator Grace Poe to unduly shut down a program of the Executive branch, meant to elevate the standards of road worthiness of vehicles, and uphold ROAD SAFETY.” The Transportation department made the statement after Poe cried foul the DOTr belied her statement that no formal order had been issued to discontinue the mandatory vehicle testing by PMVICs.

SunStar February 14, 2021 The Philippine Senate is looking into the controversial Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Centers that were given accreditation by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to operate. The Land Transportation Office did not like the intervention or comments of the Senate. There are reportedly around 180 inspection centers nationwide tasked to check the road worthiness or capability of private cars to traverse public thoroughfares safely. The inspection is prerequisite to the registration of newly acquired private vehicles and those whose registrations are to be renewed. Initial inspection will cost the registered car owner some P1,500. There are an estimated four million private vehicles in the Philippines. Motorcycles are required to have the same inspection, although at half of the price. Buses and trucks are not covered.

Published February 13, 2021, 5:00 AM DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade (Photo bB Ali Vicoy) Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) owners on Feb. 11 heeded the call of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade to lower their current inspection fees for private vehicles from P1,500-P1,800, to P600 while there is a pandemic. Despite lowered fees, the process will still cover all 73 inspection items, including smoke emission, for a comprehensive test of a vehicle’s roadworthiness. Meanwhile, the inspection fee for motorcycles will also be lowered to P500 and P300 for public utility jeepneys. PMVICs also agreed to waive re-inspection fees for private and public utility vehicles (PUVs) for one year.

MANILA, Feb. 11 As an act of solidarity and a way of heeding the call of motorists, officials of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announce that Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) owners have decided to heed the appeal of DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade’s to lower the current PMVIC inspection fee, level it with the current fee of PETCs while there is a pandemic, and waive for one year the reinspection fee for private and public utility vehicles (PUVs). The move was announced in a virtual press conference today, 11 February 2021, led by DOTr Assistant Secretary for Procurement and Project Implementation and concurrent Chief of Staff Giovanni Lopez, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Atty. Reinier Paul Yebra, Land Transportation Office (LTO) Executive Director Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante, and other road transport stakeholders.
