Recognizing greatness
All the sacrifices and hard work are beginning to reap rewards for the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, Hidilyn Diaz. The athlete is being lauded and recognized by the government and various private sector entities for her latest achievement.
Government officials and the country’s top business executives are slated to give nearly P50 million in cash incentives to Diaz in recognition and appreciation for giving the country its first Olympic gold medal since it joined the games in 1924.
There are numerous non-cash incentives as well as like a house and lot, condominium unit, unlimited miles on airlines, and even free meals for life at various restaurants.

This was embodied in DOTr Memorandum Circular (MC) No. MSC-SC-2021-01 dated March 2, 2021.
The said MC clarifies the procedure in the processing of the renewal of motor vehicle registration as directed by President Duterte, particularly on the mandatory emission testing, visual inspection, and the reduced inspection fees.
“Furrther, we value Provision 2c of the MC, which states that during this pandemic, other tests at authorized PMVICs will still be conducted but the result will only be for the purpose of advising or suggesting a course of action that will improve the roadworthiness of vehicles,” VICOAP said.
While the vehicles may still be registered, the owners would be made aware of the current condition of their vehicle. This will pave the way for the gradual shift to the culture of vehicle maintenance and inspection that will redound to safer and more efficient vehicles plying our country’s roads, the group said.

“I am appealing to PMVIC owners show your solidarity with the administration. Lower your inspection fees to the current rates being charged by PETC (private emission testing centers), and waive the reinspection fee during this pandemic,” Tugade said in Filipino.
Under Land Transportation Office (LTO) Memorandum Circular 2018- 2518, PMVICs may charge an inspection fee of P1,800 on motor vehicles weighing 4,500 kilograms or less, and a P900 re-inspection fee should it fail the initial series of tests.

In a virtual press briefing, DoTr Assistant Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez said Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade has convinced MVIC owners to reduce their rates similar to the fees being charged by private emission testing centers (PETCs).
“Ibig sabihin niyan, ibababa na lamang sa P600 ang fee sa pag-inspect ng mga pribadong sasakyan, P500 naman ang inspection fee para sa mga motorsiklo, at P300 para sa mga jeepneys (This means that the inspection fee for private vehicles will be reduced to P600, P500 for motorcycles, and P300 for jeepneys),” Lopez told reporters.
He also mentioned that MVICs will not be charging re-inspection fees to any vehicles for at least one year.
Amid mounting complaints against private motor vehicle inspection centers (PMVICs), the Land Transportation Office (LTO) maintained that roadworthiness checks on all vehicles in the country must continue in order to ensure the safety of motorists and other road users.
