HC to hold in-camera proceedings in scribe's anticipatory bail plea

The Delhi High Court on Friday agreed to conduct in-camera proceedings in the anticipatory bail plea of a Mumbai-based television journalist in an alleged rape case.
Justice Mukta Gupta gave the direction after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing journalist Varun Hiremath, requested for in-camera hearing.
The High Court, on April 9, granted interim protection from arrest to Mr. Hiremath in the case till April 16, provided he joined the police investigation. Mr. Hiremath has approached the court after his earlier anticipatory bail plea was dismissed by a trial court here on March 12.
The trial court had said that consent cannot be implied from the complainant’s previous experiences with the accused. If the woman stated in her evidence before the court that she did not consent, the court shall presume that she did not, the trial court had said while rejecting his anticipatory bail plea. ....

New Delhi:Â TV news anchor Viren Hiremath, previously associated with ET Now, joined the investigation into a rape case filed against him on Sunday after absconding for almost 47 days. As
The Wire had reported before, Sunday was also the day when the Delhi high court granted him interim protection from arrest.
According to the
Indian Express, Hiremath was questioned for close to seven hours on Sunday, after appearing at the Chanakyapuri police station around 11 am. He had reportedly been hiding in a Goa apartment since February 23. ....

He was granted HC relief from arrest
A 28-year-old Mumbai-based television journalist who was accused of rape joined the investigation in the national capital on Tuesday, more than one-and-a-half months after he was booked, the police said.
A senior police officer said Varun Hiremath was questioned for around seven hours on Sunday when he appeared before the police following High Court orders.
Among other things, he was asked about his whereabouts following the registration of the case, the police said.
On February 20, a 22-year-old woman had lodged the case against Hiremath, accusing him of raping her at a five-star hotel in Chanakyapuri. ....

New Delhi: Varun Hiremath, a 28-year-old journalist accused of rape, sexual assault and confinement by a 22-year-old woman, was granted interim protection from arrest on Friday by Delhi high court provided he joins the investigation when the police direct him to do so. Though no timeframe has been set for Hiremath, who is currently absconding, to present himself before the police, the court said it would take up the matter again on April 16. ....
