In the same way virtual assistants help us discover our next favorite song, a new software package has used advanced machine learning to help farmers and agronomists pinpoint what their crops and soils need to boost yield in a sustainable way. The scientific teams of Bayer Crop Science and Biome Makers tested and disclosed the first application of this groundbreaking technology on bioRxiv. The study and resulting scientific paper details the analysis of the soil microbiome to assess effectiveness of Bayer’s biological fungicide Minuet. Specifically, machine learning software allowed Bayer CS to predict potato yield improvement before application of the input. The predicted result was a yield bump of up to 40% in one of the fields tested in Idaho. ....
The first AI virtual assistant for sustainable farming Bayer Crop Science and Biome Makers teamed up to validate an automatized recommendation engine using soil microbiome and environmental data to determine the most suitable product application to optimize yield and soil health. News provided by Share this article Share this article WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 7, 2021 /PRNewswire/ In the same way virtual assistants help us discover our next favorite song, Biome Makers has developed a software package that uses advanced machine learning to help farmers and agronomists pinpoint what their crops and soils need to boost yield in a sustainable way. ....
Specifically, the new software allowed Bayer CS to predict potato yield improvement even before applying the biological inputs. The predicted result showed a 40% increase in produce in one of the fields tested in Idaho. “This technology is a giant leap forward for them who, up until now, have lacked the data required to accurately determine biological solutions for their seasonal soil and crop decisions,” said Varghese Thomas, project leader at Bayer CS. Additionally, product manufacturers can add custom solutions to the AI recommendation system after testing it under the Gheom protocol. A microbial-based protocol for field trials, Biome Makers’ Gheom gauges biological product efficacy by analyzing soil microbiome, a natural bioindicator in nature. ....

Traders Magazine Hedge fund managers losing millions as order delays mount up Wednesday, January 13, 2021 – An unprecedented number of delays when sending out orders to market is costing hedge fund managers $20 million per year, according to new research from TradingScreen. A combination of operational inefficiencies and trade errors cause the majority of delays, while high costs associated with IT systems maintenance is also a significant contributor. The findings show that the most unprotected trade errors cost hedge funds anywhere between 3 and 10% of trade notional, which in some cases is $5 million a year. Time delays and execution slippage, which is the difference between the expected price and the price at which the trade is executed, impacts performance by 2% of AUM, which results in costs as high as $9.5 million annually. When it comes to IT support and administrative costs, a large hedge fund with $5 billion AUM spends between $3.5 and $5 mill ....
