For decades, villagers living on a remote Southern Pacific island have held a special place in their hearts for Prince Philip.
For about 700 members of the Yaohnanen tribe, he was not merely a royal, but a god, descended from a local ancestral spirit that lived in the mountains of Tanna island, in the nation of Vanuatu.

The prince once visited the island in 1974, as part of a royal tour with the Queen. Islanders rowing the couple ashore, believed the prince was the reincarnation of a “warrior from a long time ago who had come down from the mountains and gone off to England in search of a bride,” former Buckingham Palace spokesman Dickie Arbiter told the New York Post, according to Newsweek. ....

Anthropologist Kirk Huffman says the Prince Philip Movement will continue with Prince Charles as the remote island tribe s new deity.
The Kastom tribe of Tanna, one of the islands on Vanuatu in the South West Pacific, worshipped Prince Philip as a “mountain deity” in what has become known throughout the decades as the “Prince Philip Movement”.
The Telegraph reported that villagers on the remote island responded to the 99-year-old Prince Philip’s death on Friday 9 April with ritual wailing and beverages, as well as dancing.

A PACIFIC island tribe that worshipped Prince Philip as a god will be preparing a ritual celebration to honour him before transferring their allegiance to Prince Charles.
Some 700 natives on the island of Tanna have exalted the Royal for almost 50 years - and will likely heartbroken when they find out the news of his passing this morning at Buckingham Palace.
