Italian-Libyan Economic forum ends; doors open to the future

Tunis, 9 June 2021:
The Italian-Libyan Economic Forum, organised by the Italian Libyan Business Development Association (ILBDA), closed yesterday in Tunis on a high note with the announcement of future forums in the coming months as well as public/private partnerships and new projects. None, though, were disclosed.
The two-day forum brought together businesses, public sector and civil society actors to explore new ways forward to kick start the Libyan economy. Day 1 on 7 June, consisted of panel sessions while Day 2 saw rounds of business meetings. Some of these are reported to have forged important public.private partnerships, notably in the energy and construction sectors. ....

Ahead of its event in Tunis this June, the Italian-Libyan Business Development Association (ILBDA) visits Misrata

London, 7 May 2021:

The Italian-Libyan Association for Business Development (ILDBA) conducted a three-day visit to Misrata where it met with traders, large companies, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as associations and financial organizations to understand the needs of Libyans and what contribution Italian companies can provide at this stage of recovery.
The Misrata visit comes ahead of the ILBDA’s April announcement that it will be holding the
First Economic Forum for Libya in Tunis on 7-8 June.
Under the banner “Together We Go Further”, the ILBDA said the event will be dedicated to business development for the pursuit of reconstructing Libya and will convene institutions, municipalities, entities, companies, and entrepreneurs from Italy, Libya, and Tunisia, looking for strategic commercial, financial and technological alliances. ....

Italy keeps siding with the Islamist axis in Libya as Sarraj meets with Conte and Erdogan
The visit occurred during a very complicated phase for Libya as violence between the GNA and the LNA is about to erupt once again, and Serraj very likely travelled to Rome with the objective of asking the Italian government for more support.
After the meeting, Sarraj and his team flew to Turkey to meet with his strong ally, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
It is interesting to notice how in the meantime, the spokesman for the pro-GNA Sirte-Jufra Operations Room , brigade General Al-Hadi Salem Idrah, released an interview to Italian journalist and Libya expert, Vanessa Tomassini, for the analysis site Strumenti Politici, confirming Italian intelligence support and asking for military aid: ....
