The city of South Pasadena in California has reached a settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the mother of actress Vanessa Marquez more than two years after she was shot and killed by police at her home during a wellness check gone wrong when authorities claimed she brandished what officers believed to be a gun.

The mother of ER star Vanessa Marquez who was shot and killed by police in 2018 has settled a wrongful death lawsuit with the city of South Pasadena.
Delia McElfresh, 80, and the California city reached a settlement of $450,000 over the actress s death that happened during a wellness check by officers.
The mother filed the lawsuit in August against the city, its former police chief and a number of officers over their tactics that led to the shooting that killed her daughter.
Police had entered her home after receiving a call to check on her wellness; upon entering, they found a disheveled apartment and Marquez, who had struggled with mental health issues, in a state. ....

The city of South Pasadena, Calif. has reached a settlement agreement in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of actor Vanessa Marquez, who was shot and killed by police in her home in 2018.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Marquez’s mother, Delia McElfresh, and the city of South Pasadena agreed upon the amount of $450,000, “in order to save the parties the costs associated with protracted litigation,” South Pasadena Mayor Diana Mahmud told the Times. The majority of the cost of the settlement and litigation will come from South Pasadena’s risk pool. All of the suit’s claims which included unlawful entry, excessive force, violation of due process and unreasonable detention will also be dismissed with prejudice as part of the settlement. ....
