According to historical data, Italy was the birthplace of ice cream, at least as we know it. The first famous ice cream parlor was inaugurated in Paris in the late 17th century, although there are theories that suggest the first ice cream dates to 2000 BC and was based on something similar to rice and other spices that were kept under snow.
The Marshall Fire destroyed Roberto and Vannessa Camacho's home one week after they closed on the house. Since then, the family says they've been overwhelmed with support from the community.
Many have spent the past year largely in a state of emergency, trying to play the role of parent, teacher and friend.
Even as students returned to partially opened classrooms, some of the remote programs that education systems intended to be temporary have remained in place. Schools are planning to reopen schools next year as parents raise concerns about the toll of virtual learning on children’s mental health.
“Online was fun for the first couple of months, but it got old real fast,” Camacho said. “Mostly it’s kids getting used to not hanging out with their friends and not seeing people their own age.”
