FCHD says 89 have now received the COVID-19 vaccine

On their daily report on Friday, the Fayette County Health Department says that 89 have received the COVID-19 vaccine.  The first shipment of the vaccine brought 100 doses to Fayette County and healthcare personnel and long term care facility residents were in the first group, listed as Phase 1a.  Dr. Glenn Skow of Fayette County Hospital was the first to receive the vaccine in Fayette County.  Other healthcare personnel, among those folks from the Fayette County Health Department, got the vaccine this week.  Vandalia Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Garrison said on Friday morning the school’s nurses were to receive the vaccine on Friday afternoon.  The county is expected to get more doses in the coming weeks. ....

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a lot of disagreements, and has led to splits along many different lines.  But, the Vandalia Superintendent of Schools hopes we can work past those disagreements and come together as a community.  Speaking during this past Thursday’s Board Retreat, Dr. Jennifer Garrison says she wants to see the ugly comments stop and work at unity to be there, whether everyone agrees or not. ....
