WADESBORO Anson County Commissioner Vancine Sturdivant was convicted on March 11 for injuring notices and advertisements from moving an election sign during the 2018 election. On October 17 of 2018, Sturdivant allegedly moved a Todd Moore campaign sign outside the Wadesboro precinct during early voting. Moore, unaffiliated candidate for Commissioner District 4 at the time, reported the incident both to the Board of Elections and the Wadesboro Police Department. Sturdivant plead not guilty. She was originally charged with “remove/etc. politic sign violation,” which is a misdemeanor. After the trial the she was convicted with “injuring notices and advertisements.” Sturdivant received a “prayer for judgment” verdict and the case was disposed on March 11. Prayer for judgment is a unique ruling to North Carolina in which the offense or punishment is not entered against the person. ....
It happened at Richmond County Senior High School. Sgt. Thomas Luckey and his wife can be seen in the photo standing next to their son, celebrating his last home soccer match. Luckey and his wife s hands are held in front of their bellies using a gesture that some say has become associated with White supremacy. The photo is just the latest aggression from Luckey, according to dozens of residents in Wadesboro. I was so shocked that he did it so publicly. I wasn t shocked that he did it because we all know his history and pretty much his mindset, local business owner Jerffery Bennett told WSOC. ....

At least 1,028 people in North Carolina were reported hospitalized with the coronavirus as of Saturday, down from 1,037 reported the day before. As of Thursday, the latest date for which data are available, 5.4% of coronavirus tests were reported positive. Health officials have said 5% or lower is the target rate to control the spread of the virus. More than 3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in North Carolina, and 1.2 million people in the state have been fully vaccinated as of Saturday. ....
