Home Guards Time Capsule opened • • •
VAN WERT The time capsule recovered from the rubble of the Home Guard building downtown was opened today, July 15, 2021 at the Van Wert Foundation front office. Before opening the capsule, Seth Baker, CEO, read portions of the dedication presented at the grand opening of the building. Then the container was opened.
The container appeared to be copper since it had the blue green tint that weathered copper items produce over time. The box was dented and damaged by debris and water. The contents had been previously removed from from the box to give it time to dry since the paper items were heavy with moisture. Stacy Adam had the pleasure of removing the lid. She gingerly removed each item, some in pieces.
