Klipspruit Road closures as JRA repairs sinkhole

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has devised alternative routes for Soweto motorists while it repairs the damage caused by a sinkhole.
“Following collapsed stormwater infrastructure which caused a section of the road to cave in”, the agency said on Tuesday it needed to close an additional lane on Klipspruit Valley Road southbound and opposite Maponya Toyota.
“Last week the JRA implemented a sectional closure on two traffic lanes. However, after further assessment, an additional lane was closed off as a precautionary measure. Plans for repairs are under way and will be communicated in due course.” ....

The Johannesburg Road Agency’s costly plan to launch an app for residents to report potholes left them with only a huge hole in the budget, but it is shifting gears with the various municipalities to maintain and fix roads.
In partnership with the Gauteng department of transport, the agency has launched the Smart Mobility Weekends project, by which it has identified 51 areas where work is needed. ....

Damian Lane will be watching this year s Japanese Classics from home but hasn t abandoned thoughts of riding in Japan this year.
Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of when Lane rode Salios into second behind Contrail in a memorable G1 Japanese 2000 Guineas (2000m) at Nakayama. The same horses provided the G1 Japanese Derby (2400m) quinella a month later, Lane and Salios again forced to settle for second.
Lane has made three visits to Japan since 2019 and is available to apply for a two-month stint on the JRA circuit during 2021.
Japan are still taking foreign visas so I m hopeful of maybe riding there at the end of the year, after our Melbourne Spring Carnival, but it s all ifs and maybes, Lane said. ....
