The Roop, the Lithuanian band that won last year s national Eurovision selection, but could not perform in front of European audiences, has unveiled a new song which is competing to represent Lithuania this year.
Discoteque, an 80s-inspired tune complete with a stylish music video, talks about inner liberation and dance, says the band.
“[Last year s song] On Fire has shown how much music and dance can affect people. It s a combination that liberates,” the band s lead singer Vaidotas Valiukevičius told LRT.lt.
“In Discoteque, we re talking about inner liberation. We often say that we are free and we live in a free world. But most of the restrictions are inside us. With this song, therefore, we want to stir people s inner selves that are too self-critical, too afraid to look weird,” he reasoned. ....

With a plethora of lights, effects and pyrotechnics at their disposal, every country dreams of an iconic staging moment that will make the public pick up their phones and impress the juries. In short, the staging can make or break a song.
For Eurovision 2020 of course, those dreams were dashed. All we were left with were staging blueprints, and winks towards staging ambitions from music videos and national selection performances. The lead singer of The Roop, Vaidotas Valiukevičius, is confident that the group can win Pabandom iš naujo 2021 and represent Lithuania at Eurovision in 2021.
Speaking to the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT, Vaidotas Valiukevičius, has spoken about The Roops attempt to represent Lithuania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. He explained why the group decided to compete in Pabandom iš naujo 2021:
We decided to participate, because we do not give up the feeling that this trip is not over yet. We were elected, chosen, but we could not go out and represent our country. ....
