Healthy adults can get a Covid jab in May - if they volunteer for vaccine study VOLUNTEERS from the North-East are being asked to sign up to the latest Covid-19 vaccine study to be rolled out across the UK. The National Institute for Health Research-supported Valneva Phase 2/3 study, will be run at North Tyneside General Hospital, in North Shields, and the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle, and is open to healthy adults who have not had a previous Covid-19 vaccine. Across the UK 4,000 participants will be recruited and everyone involved in the study will receive two active vaccine doses, administered in a four week interval. ....

4,000 volunteers are set to be recruited to the latest vaccine study running in the UK, examining a new COVID-19 vaccine candidate. Developed by specialty vaccine company Valneva, the vaccine is being manufactured at the company’s site in Livingston, West Lothian. It is the only inactivated, adjuvanted (an ingredient to create a strong immune response) COVID-19 vaccine in clinical development in Europe. The study will be running across 22 National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) sites in England, and two sites in Scotland, and is open to healthy adults who have not had a previous COVID-19 vaccine. ....

Health chiefs in the UK on Thursday began what they have described as a world-first clinical trial of patients who will receive different COVID-19 vaccines for their first or second dose, to detect its impact on immunity against coronavirus. The study, backed by 7 million pound of government funding, will determine the effects of using different vaccines for the first and second dose for example, using Oxford University/AstraZeneca s vaccine for the first dose, followed by Pfizer/BioNTech s vaccine for the second. It is being run by the National Immunisation Schedule Evaluation Consortium (NISEC) across eight National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) supported sites and also gather immunological evidence on different intervals between the first and second dose for a mixed-vaccine regimen against control groups when the same vaccine is used for both doses. ....
