For the veterans living at the facility it brings the hope of a return to normalcy after more than a half year in lockdown. The VAâs Community living center in Miles City is the only VA nursing home in the state. They care for more than a dozen veterans with a wide variety of different health complications. However, the one thing they all have in common is their health conditions make them more at risk for serious complications from COVID-19. ....

As the U.S. continues to post record numbers of COVID-19 cases and deaths daily, the Veterans Affairs Department is piloting a wastewater testing program aimed at safeguarding one of the most vulnerable populations the agency serves. Last week, the agency announced a sole source contract to CDM Smith to collect samples of wastewater poop and other human sewage from eight VA Community Living Center nursing homes. As a place for elderly, disabled and infirmed veterans, residents at the centers are at a higher risk of contracting and dying from COVID-19. ....

Montana VA on track to receive COVID vaccine next week By: John Riley and last updated 2020-12-16 13:32:59-05 HELENA â The Montana VA Health Care System (MTVAHCS) could receive their first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine just in time for Christmas. Due to the rural nature of the state and the cold requirements of the Pfizer vaccine, MTVAHCS will be receiving doses of the Moderna vaccine once it is approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). A FDA briefing document on the Moderna vaccine shows it as 94 percent at preventing infection. The FDA will determine later this week if the vaccine can be implemented under emergency use. ....
