The Benue State government has banned motorcycles and illegal revenue checkpoints in some parts of Sankera in the state.
The Benue State Security Council disclosed this known in a statement made available to DAILY POST by the Permanent Secretary Bureau of Internal Affairs and Special Services, Uyina Matthew on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the decision was taken after the consideration of the security situation in Katsina-Ala and other parts of Sankera area of the state.
“The use of motorcycles is hereby banned in Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas, till further notice.
“The use of tricycles also known as Keke and other means of transportation apart from motorcycles will be allowed in the two local government areas.

Benue State Security Council on Tuesday banned the use of motorcycles and illegal revenue checkpoints in Sankera axis of the state.
This is coming on the heels of a series of attacks on innocent people in the area in recent times.
The axis comprises of three local governments; Logo, Katsina-Ala and Ukum with Katsina-Ala as headquarters.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Internal Affairs and Special Services, Uyina Matthew, the council considered the security situation in Katsina-Ala and other parts of Sankera area of the state and had taken some measures to stem the insecurity in the area.
“The use of motorcycles is hereby banned in Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas, till further notice.
“The use of tricycles also known as Keke and other means of transportation apart from motorcycles will be allowed in the two local government areas.
“Security operatives have been mandated to arrest defaulters and impound their motorcycles.
“Aside the revenue collection point at the head bridge in Katsina-Ala, no other revenue point is allowed within the local government area,” the statement added.
The statement instructed all staff of the Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) to wear customized jackets and identity cards while security agents are mandated to dismantle all illegal revenue collection points and makeshift shops.

However, tricycles, (Keke Napeps) and other means of transportation will be allowed in the two local government areas.
The State Security Council also mandated that apart from the revenue collection points at the head bridge in Katsina-Ala, no other revenue point is allowed within the local government area.
