IS REACHING HERD IMMUNITY REALISTIC? I THINK IN THE NEAR TERM IT’S UNLIKELY. KENT: DR. MATT ANDERSON OF UW HEALTH SAYS WITH NEWERR, HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS VARIANTS OF COVID, HERD IMMUNITY WOULD REQUIRE 75-OR-80% OF THE POPULATION TO BE VACCINATED. CURRENTLY JUST OVER 43% OF WISCONSINITES HAVE HAD AT LEAST DOSE OF VACCINE AND THE RATE AT WHICH PEOPLE ARE GETTING SHOTS IS DROPPING. ALSO, A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION IS CHILDREN UNDER AGE 15 WHO AREN’T YET ELIGIBLE FOR THE VACCINE. I THINK IT IS UNLIKELY THAT WE WILL HIT HERD IMMUNITY BEFORE WE HAVE THOSE 0-15 S INCLUDED IN THE POPULATION. SOME PEOPLE, GETTING THEIR SHOTS ON MONDAY, HAD DOUBTS ABOUT REACHING HERD IMMUNITY.
