University of Washington study: Immune memory in mild COVID-19 cases lasts 3 months Callie Craighead, SeattlePI A newly-published study from the University of Washington showed encouraging results for a sustained immune system response to COVID-19. In a study of blood samples of recovered patients of mild COVID-19 cases, researchers with UW s Department of Immunology found that an immune-memory defense against the virus remained present in the body for at least three months after the illness was over. By analyzing memory B and T cells white blood cells that recognize an infection the body has previously encountered and begin an immune response the researchers found that the memory B cells were able to produce antibodies that can disarm SARS-CoV-2. The memory T cells signaled to other cells for help fighting the virus. ....
