hello and welcome to our viewers in the united states and around the world. live from cnn world headquarters in atlanta, i m john vause, and this is cnn newsroom. texas officials are facing a growing number of questions as well as increasing criticism of law enforcement s response to the mass shooting at robb elementary. for two days now, the official count has been inconsistent, contradictory, and outright confusing at times with some major changes to some important details. did police exchange gunfire with the shooter as he entered the school? on tuesday and wednesday, the answer was yes. by thursday, no. the shooter was never confronted by a school resource officer or anyone for that matter. it just never happened. authorities say it took up to an hour before the gunman was killed, and during that time, police were calling for backup and evacuating students and teachers from other parts of the school, negotiating with the suspect himself, pinning him down in a cl ....

even though he was firing shots outside for some 12 minutes, there are so many unanswered questions. here is what we do know. 11:28 a.m. central time the suspect crashed his truck into a ditch near the school. he exited the vehicle, fired at two witnesses across the street. at 11:40 a.m. the gunman entered the school through an unlocked door on the west side of the building. four minutes later, officers entered the school, received gunfire then retreated from the building as they called for backup. it was not until an hour later, full hour, 12:44 p.m. local time that a tactical team made entry and killed the suspect. this morning we are learning more about just what was going on inside that classroom. mia got some blood and put it on herself to pretend she was dead. she had bullet fragments in her back. that poor little girl and so many stories just hike it. we ll have more on mia s story in a moment. let s begin though on the investigation. cnn crime and justice co ....
i trust we ll have you back soon. thanks for being here. we are at the top of the hour now. it is 9:00 here on the east coast. 8:00 in uvalde, texas. let s get to several major discrepancies. let s go to morgan who is on the ground in uvalde. morgan? reporter: another tough morning here in uvalde as authorities are shifting what happened and when here inside robb elementary school. this is coming after we heard from parents who were just outside the school saying police were not acting fast enough when those gun shots rang out inside. now as authorities try to provide some clarity with answers, there are only new questions rising about why they didn t engage that gunman fast enough. this morning, growing confusion and outrage about why it took so long to take out that lone gunman. our job is to report the facts and have those answers. we re not there yet. reporter: police now say it took over an hour from the first 911 call to stop the massacre. in that time, 19 ....
