A single-judge bench of Justice Siddharth Verma made these observations on Monday while granting protection from arrest on special grounds , till January 2022, to a builder based in Ghaziabad. A case had been filed against the builder by Uttar Pradesh Police over an alleged property possession default. The order also listed out what the special grounds were, saying the apprehension of death on account of reasons like the present pandemic of novel coronavirus can certainly be held to be a ground for grant of anticipatory bail to an accused .

In a special urgent hearing on a court holiday, a bench comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and Hrishikesh Roy passed the order after taking note of several notifications and assurances of the UP State Election Commission that COVID-19 protocols will be followed at the 829 counting centres in the state. The apex court directed that there will be a strict curfew in the entire state during the counting of votes till Tuesday morning and no victory rallies will be permitted.

As many as 135 teachers, shiksha mitras and investigators assigned on panchayat election duty, have lost their lives. The HC issued notices to UP State Election Commission (UPSEC) and sought an explanation on why it failed to check non-compliance of Covid guidelines, LiveLaw reported. A division bench of Justices Siddhartha Verma and Ajir Kumar also asked why action should not be taken against the commission and its officials.
