New Delhi, April 12 : In a welcome but cautious reopening of the capital s cultural scene, young and experienced Indian classical dancers, musicians and instrumentalists converged in New Delhi s Triveni Kala Sangam for the second edition of a music and dance festival organised with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
The Aavartan Festival 2021 Taalatmika by Devi Durga Kathak Sansthan (DDKS) founded in 2002 by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Kathak guru Geetanjali Lal, took place last week on a larger scale in the aspect of artistes and performances, say the organisers. They dedicated this festival in the memory of noted Indian dance historian and Padma Shri recipient Sunil Kothari. ....

Listening to the four-month long online Swara Samrat festival (SSF) that concluded recently allowed one to note certain trends in Hindustani music that are increasingly gaining strength. The tradition of not repeating a raga previously performed at a festival is being ignored nowadays. At SSF, some ragas were repeated up to even three times.
There were 16 instrumental concerts (Hindustani), yet most of the instrumentalists chose not to highlight their instruments’ specific ‘baaj,’ preferring to follow the ‘gayaki ang’ with no ‘tantra baaj’. In format too, they played only aalap, no ‘jor’ and ‘jhala’, followed by vilambit gats rather than moving on to a fast-paced madhya laya composition. The listening experience is definitely com ....

Mumbai, Jan 28 : Veteran actress and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Hema Malini feels life of citizens in West Bengal will become better if her party comes to power in the upcoming state legislative elections.
Hema Malini spoke at the launch of an album that has an anthem for BJP s state campaign. The album has four songs in Bangla and Hindi languages.
