The Court of Appeal in Kano has restored Sadiq Wali as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the state in the 2023 election. The appellate court on Friday voided and set aside the judgment of a High Court that recognised Mohammed Abacha as the party’s governorship candidate in the state.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court through the All Progressives Congress (APC) asking the apex court to declare him the senatorial candidate of APC for Yobe North and set aside the judgement of the trial and appellate courts which declared Bashir Machina as the rightful senatorial candidate for the party.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the senatorial candidacy of the ruling All Progressives Congress candidate for Yobe North, Bashir Sheriff Machina. The Appeal Court in a unanimous judgment affirmed the earlier decision of the Federal High Court, Damaturu which declared Machina as the rightful senatorial candidate of APC for Yobe North. The court dismissed the petition filed by the ruling party for being unmeritorious and awarded N1 million to Machina.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has fixed Monday, November 28 for judgement in an appeal filed by the ruling All Progressives Congress, challenging the decision of the lower court which declared Bashir Machina as the rightful senatorial candidate of the APC for Yobe North. The court had reserved its judgment after the counsel for the parties made their closing arguments on November 11. The appellate court would determine the authentic senatorial candidate of the APC for Yobe North between Machina and Senate President Ahmad Lawan on Monday.
