he said the president had a total of four briefings. this was a long deliberative process that began tuesday, when knew that the syrian saron gas strike first became apparent. the last meeting he had was with his national security team at mar a-lago. that would have been about 4:00 p.m. yesterday. and that is when he made the decision to go ahead and strike out at syria. and i was told by the press secretary a short time ago that the operation seems to be an utter and complete success. 59 of 59 missiles hit their marks. and that is president was very pleased with what happened. listen to what the press secretary said a short time ago. we had a clear and justified proportional response from around the world. to make it very clear to not just folks in syria and the assad regime, but the rest of the world, that this president will take justified and proportional action when it
turks, all of our allies in the region. here is the moment now that we need to go back to friends of syria. we need to show movements. we need to make it very clear to the russian that it will be very difficult. but i think if we can get turkey on our side and we can go to the russians to say, you must change your calculus, i think that we have a chance. and that muscular tkpsy must happen immediately. melissa: russia has a lot to answer for. they were a party to susan rice when she assured people that the chemical weapons were gone from syria. listen to this. i think the president stated the u.s. view which is the use of chemical weapons is not something we are prepared to allow to persist. we didn t. we managed to accomplish that goal far more thoroughly than we could have by some limited strikes against chemical targets. by getting the entirety of the declared stock pile moved.
flim flammed by the russians saying, we ll take care of this. we ll have them, syrians, sign the treaty on nonuse of chemical weapons. we ll clean them all up and get them outta there. guess what? it didn t happen. here we are with a lot more dead people. melissa: next week secretary of state rex tillerson is going to be going to russia. what do you think that meeting is like? what would you hope it was like? well, knowing rex as i do, and knowing this administration that i do, i think they re going to be firm. we ve already seen this, that they ve been firm. i think it s been reported that there was no notification at top levels from the u.s. to russia. they did use the deconflict lines that were open on the ground in syria. i think that s a message in and of itself that, look, we re gonna do what needs to be done. i think that that message is going to be strong. i think the russians are gonna have to think long and hard ab
