Gillibrand Unveils PFAS Medical Monitoring Bill In Hoosick Falls

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand hosted a roundtable discussion with community leaders and advocates Monday in Hoosick Falls where she provided details on new legislation intended to address PFAS contamination and require medical monitoring for those affected by pollution.
The last time Senator Gillibrand came to Hoosick Falls, it was July 2016 for a roundtable discussion on PFOA contamination. During the visit, the Democrat pledged to ban PFOA – the primary contaminant found in the village’s water supply, as well as private wells in the Town of Hoosick, and the nearby Town of Petersburgh.
Hoosick Falls has come a long way since the “emerging contaminant” was first detected, with filtration systems installed in homes and the municipal water supply. New York State has set new maximum contaminant levels for compounds PFOA and PFOS. ....

Area Officials Discuss Next COVID Relief Bill

With Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote, Democrats in the U.S. Senate early Friday took action to move forward a $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package. State and federal officials provided updates on the bill on Friday.
As House committees plan to begin deliberations on the next coronavirus relief package next week, Ways and Means Chair Richard Neal of Massachusetts’ First District updated reporters on the legislation Friday afternoon.
Neal was among Democratic members of Congress who met with President Biden about the aid package that includes direct payments to individuals.
“He indicated a willingness to target the impact payments to make sure that the people that needed it the most received the checks, but he would not retreat on the $2,000, which I thought was good, and he will not retreat from the size of the package at $1.9 trillion.” ....

Gillibrand's Bill Would Help Vaccine Distribution; Rockland Receives Vaccine Doses

New York U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has announced her first bill for the new session of Congress, and it aims to speed up the country’s lagging vaccine distribution. Meantime, Rockland County received its first shipment of a COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday morning and began administering it to county healthcare workers Tuesday afternoon.
Senator Gillibrand says she is reintroducing her Health Force, Resilience Force, and Jobs to Fight COVID-19 Act.
“This bill would invest billions of dollars into local public health infrastructure and recruit, train and employ hundreds of thousands of Americans to support vaccine communication, distribution and administration efforts in their own communities, with a particular focus on underserved communities,” Gillibrand says. ....
