Kanwarijt Walia s family in New Jersey spent nights up on the phone coordinating his medical care in India. He was one of many casualties of this current surge in coronavirus cases in the world s second most populous country.

A Bergen County family mourning the loss of a beloved patriarch is channeling its grief into an effort to raise awareness about the ongoing coronavirus crisis in India.
Kanwarijt Walia, 94, died in India on April 25, following a two week-long battle with the disease that has killed more than 3.2 million people worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins University. ....

Neighbours noticed she hadn’t been seen and one of her cats was pacing in agitation. They called the police who broke in and found her. She’d been dead for anywhere up to a week. ....
