The province ordered the expansion in November 2022, opening up 2,200 hectares of countryside for development, at the same time it announced it would be removing land from the Greenbelt.
The same day the province announced its plans to remove three Hamilton sites from the Greenbelt, it also opened up an additional 2,200 hectares of local countryside for development, including land owned by developers Sergio Manchia and Paul Paletta.
New details have emerged about how Premier Doug Ford’s government selected several sites in the Hamilton area to be removed from the Greenbelt, following an investigation by the province's integrity commissioner.
