Set up in 2018 as part of the Urban Congestion Fund, the project was intended to construct car parks near urban railway stations. However, the Auditor-General found that none of the 47 car park projects to receive money under the fund were selected by the Infrastructure department, that 90% of the projects were in government-held or targeted seats, and that just five of the 47 car parks have been delivered. Commenting on the Australian National Audit Office (ANAO) report, acting opposition infrastructure spokesman Andrews Giles said it was another example of a Coalition ‘rort’, following on from others such as the female change-room rorts and the sports rorts. ....
